Airport Ferry Transfer in the Maldives
The Airport Ferry, also known locally as a traditional dhoni connection, is one of the most affordable and reliable ways to travel between Velana International Airport (MLE) and Malé City. It remains a popular option for both visitors and local passengers.
This service operates throughout the day and night, making it a practical transfer choice for travelers arriving at different times. As a budget-friendly alternative to taxis and private transfers, it is especially useful for guests staying in Malé or continuing their journey to nearby locations.
The ferry usually costs around USD 1 or approximately MVR 15–20 per person. During the day, departures are generally every 10 to 15 minutes, while late-night service may operate every 30 minutes.
The trip itself takes around 10 minutes. The ferry dock is located just outside the airport arrivals area, across the road and slightly to the left, making it easy to access even for first-time visitors.
Passengers arriving in Malé usually disembark at the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. From there, guests can continue by taxi, on foot, or connect to other local transport options. For travelers with large luggage, the airport ferry is often considered more convenient than smaller local transfer options.
